Module 2 — Neurodivergence & the Body
Sensory Processing Differences: A Clinical Overview
35 min read
Neurodivergence is not one thing. ADHD, autism, sensory processing disorder, hypermobile EDS, and their frequent co-occurrences each present with distinct body patterns. What they share is a sensory nervous system that processes input differently — and a body that has often spent years bracing against that difference.
This lesson is a clinical overview for bodyworkers, not a diagnostic manual. We'll look at the most common presentations, the body patterns associated with each, and the language that builds trust with neurodivergent clients.
Key Concepts
- Sensory over- vs under-responsivity and how each shows in the body
- ADHD: dysregulation, proprioceptive seeking, and tension patterns
- Autism and interoceptive differences
- Hypermobility: why it co-occurs so frequently, and how it changes your approach
